Clean and tidy. Room above pub but was quiet. Not luxury but en suite and at £40 a night, 2 minutes walk away from train station excellent value. It is a room only basis with no breakfast, however deli across the road was open.

We went for a family meal, the food was cooked and presented really well. The staff were friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was great There was the option to eat inside or the garden. Children were welcomed and we have a lovely evening. I would recommend this place for families

Another super little hotel with an attached pub with a friendly host and locals. Full of old railway artefacts as befits the name. A good stopover after a long day on the road

Even need to improve few things ( a bin in the room for example ), is good. Quiet place, soft bed and pillows. Train station 2 min walking. Lovely staff. The wifi is great. Been for one night and I can't complain. One stop shop next to the place, taxis in the station.

Cheap and cheerful. I was in a tiny single room, the floorboards creaked, the lighting was poor, the shower was a bit disappointing, the TV had a weird electric buzz, (thank goodness I took ear plugs) and there was no way of turning the radiator off. Also, they don't offer breakfast during the week. There is a One Stop shop across the way though, so you can always grab something. For what was paid, it was perfectly adequate. Would I stay again? More than likely, they've got a few tweaks to make to improve the place, but the staff are nice, which really is important.

Called for drinks only and really enjoyed the railway-themed interior. The real ale was o.k. and on our second visit we were very comfy on the leather Chesterfields. Some of the lagers were sold out but I guess that reflects how busy they must have been the previous night.

Beef was really chewy, got a spoonful of mash and the Yorkshire puddings were burnt , thought the desert would be better, got a strawberry cheesecake, which didn't taste like cheesecake, more like whiiped cream with strawberry favouring!! Still hungry when got home, wouldn't recommend had better takeaway sunday lunches!! Was a treat for mothers day as well!! Never again

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Only gave it a grade of one as wouldn't let me leave zero I unfortunately booked my parents into this , and I use the term very loosely, hotel at the beginning of December 2023. And only did so as they let dogs stay there with them . I deeply regret booking them in . The lighting was so poor that they couldn't read by it I suspect this was so you couldn't see how dirty it was when you walked in and complain about the room which the lady that showed them to the room and she disappeared extraordinarily quickly, I imagine for the same reason. There was dust everywhere, seen in the light of day. There was used pizza boxes in the bedside drawers along with other rubbish , I suspect this was because there was no bins in the room . The toilet was filthy, old and noisy , the shower had black mold on the tray and up the woodwork. Very small TV with wires everywhere. The bed head board was broken. They slept in their clothes as the mattress was covered in blood and urine stains , it did have a sheet on mattress. Also mattress was completely worn out and compressed to approx 2inches thick when sat on. They didn't get to sleep till approx 4am because of the noise coming from the room nextdoor that seemed to have a revolving door because of the amount of times people were in and out. Also when they paid it was under a different name The Sportsman Hotel. Good job they done do breakfast as they wouldn't have eaten anything that was made there if the state of the room was anything to go by . They just had to post the keys through the letterbox as there was no one to give them to in the morning .

I'm not a regular but this is a nice local and themed pub. Very close to the railway station. Almost like a trip to Beamish. A good place to take North Americans for some old world nostalgia.

We have now eaten twice at this restaurant, the quality and value for money is excellent.|The menu is extensive.||Varied drinks again, decent value.||It won’t be the last time we visit.|The previous time was for a Sunday lunch that consisted of extremely tender beef and a mass of vegetables.||It won’t be our last visit.

The Locomotion and Framboisette.....Framboisette is the restaurant which is the former lounge bar of the larger pub. Turning left through the front door brings you into a pleasant lounge where dogs are welcomed. At the rear is the dinning area proper. The menu offers lots of choice and is teriffic value for money. The food is reliably delicious and wholesome. The staff are lovely all in all a lovely experience.

Small dingy room , ensuite shower black mould on trims and seals , bathroom window had obscuring film on glass that did not completely cover the glass , perfect for a peeping Tom. Not even a small table in the room .

Had our sons christening here. There wasn't enough food (even though we paid for more people that came), chicken was undercooked and the toilets were flooded and disgusting.
